The International Conference in Pretoria was held 6-9 January and was a great success with participants from five continents in attendance. This was the first time the IASYM International Conference has been held outside the UK. The IASYM Executive Committee accepted the invitation from Malan Nel and the Faculty of Theology of the University of Pretoria to host the 2011 conference in South Africa. Holding our bi-annual conference in Africa was a strategic decision for the association, and reflects a commitment to be truly global and genuinely contextual. Like previous conferences, this event offered delegates the opportunity to reflect on academic work on youth ministry from across the world and also engage with scholarship particular to Africa. In addition there was a time within the programme to focus on the work of the association and a colloquium for PhD students. Participants also had the opportunity to tour the Apartheid Museum and to hear words of encouragement from a local pastor during dinner in Soweto.
