Melbourne 2018: Instructions for Presenters

The strength of the conference rests in large part on the strength of the research papers presented. Thank you for being willing to prepare a presentation to be shared at the conference in April.

Preparation and Submission of Final Paper

Your full paper must be submitted by email to no later than 16 March, 2018.

Papers should be between 6,000 and 8,000 words and comply with the Instructions for Authors for the Journal of Youth and Theology (

Those who are presenting emerging research papers are encouraged to include in your final paper an indication of the particular kind of feedback you need at this stage of your work. Please list some specific questions that those engaging with your research could respond to.

Presentation of your Paper

Each session has one hour and fifteen minutes for the presentation of your paper which provides ample time for discussion and feedback.

A chairperson appointed to each session will introduce you and the topic of your paper.

Presenters are asked to prepare a twenty- to thirty-minute presentation that provides an overview of the paper, including relevant background information, and any particular direction you would like the follow-up discussion to take. Please do not read your paper aloud. Delegates will have received a full text of your paper ahead of the conference. Your presentation should assume that most people will have read the paper even though the details may not be fresh in their minds.

Following your presentation the chairperson will lead a time of question and answer in response to your paper. At the conclusion of the discussion, the chairperson will aim to draw the conversation together and summarise a response to your paper. You will have the opportunity to have the final word before the session concludes.

Each of the presentation rooms are equipped with smart boards. Please either bring your own computer or have your presentation on a USB drive in ppt format. (Ideally, save your presentation as separate image files and load them into a new presentation to ensure that your layout and fonts are preserved).
